These four conferences are considered the elite level of college football, commanding the largest TV contracts, the best recruiting, and the most playoff berths.
The SEC is widely regarded as the toughest conference in football. Home to Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and LSU. Known for elite recruiting, dominant defenses, and massive stadiums in the Deep South. Recently added Texas and Oklahoma from the Big 12.
The Big Ten spans from coast to coast after adding USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. Features iconic programs like Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. Known for physical play, strong academics, and the largest stadiums in the country.
The Big 12 has reinvented itself after losing Texas and Oklahoma, adding teams like Arizona, Colorado, and UCF. Known for high-scoring offenses and competitive parity where anyone can beat anyone on a given Saturday.
The ACC stretches from Boston to Miami and now west to Stanford and Cal. Clemson and Florida State have been the flagship programs. Also home to Miami, which dominated the sport in the 1980s-2000s.
These conferences are a step below the Power 4 in terms of revenue and prestige, but regularly produce competitive teams that upset the big programs.
